from Ellie

Hey y'all!!! OK, so I am just sitting in our r.v. and this is how our day went... First we had to get up and we slept in a hotel and maybe it was a good night sleep for the rest of the family but for me it was not so pretty!!! It was freezing in the place. OK so anyways we got up and ate. (good meal!) Then we went in the r.v. and that is pretty much where we have been the whole day. And now we just got to the r.v. place and we are eating tacos! (yum i got it from my best across the street neighbor!) And if it STOPS raining then we might get to do smores!!! I accidently said snores at camp cedar lake and people were laughing because people thought that it was funny!!! Well i have to go eat!!! love u ALL!!! Love,Ellie :)

Cedar City, UT to Richfield, UT

The road didn't take us very far today. We are still in Utah. We had to spend a little time getting the motorcoach worked on this morning so that seemed to hold us up some. We also had a little mishap when we were dumping the waste from the RV. Matthew didn't get the tube connected tight enough and well, let's just say it wasn't a very pretty sight! I thought at that point we might be walking back to Tennessee!

Things got better once we got on the road. Our best site for the day was Bryce Canyon. It was absolutely stunning! Our second best site is now the Fairfield Inn in Richfield, UT. This is where we are resting our heads for the night. I decided that my sweet husband needed a little treat for all of the tireless driving he has had to endure.

Grand Canyon to Vegas to Utah

The last you heard from the Peak family we were camping at the entrance to the Grand Canyon. We spent the better part of yesterday enjoying the gorgeous views of the Canyon. After about the 3rd hour there I asked Ellie if she was enjoying it. Her comment was, "Well, Mom, it just looks like a bunch of rocks." I guess she wasn't having as much fun throwing the rocks into the big ditch as the boys were.

We left the Grand Canyon and headed to Las Vegas. This is the best and only picture we could get of the Hoover Dam as we crossed over.

Today didn't start out the best because Sheryl (the motorcoach) had to spend a good 5 hours in the shop for some repairs. She's still running a little hot. Chris has to slow her down to 45-55 mph to climb some of these mountains. That can make for a very long trip. While Sheryl was in the hospital, Chris decided to show the kids some of the Las Vegas sights. (Vegas was NEVER in our original trip plans.)

A little bumper car action at Circus Circus.

Burgers at In-N-Out.

Chocolate Fountain at the Bellagio.

Our view coming into Utah. It was beautiful!

Chris and his copilot. Drew has been very helpful hooking up the coach each night.

Cedar City, Utah where we sleep tonight. Grilled chicken outside and sleeping with the windows open. The weather is perfect! Glad to be gone from the hellacious heat of Las Vegas! Who knows where the road will lead tomorrow.

Gallup to Tusayan

Today has been a very busy day. Fortunately, we had more things to see and less travel time. It was nice to finally be in Arizona.

Our first stop was to visit the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest. When we entered, they asked us if we had any rocks or petrified wood on the coach. We were informed that it is against the law to take any wood or rocks from the desert. Can you guess which two upstanding citizens should be spending the night in the local jail? Hint: One is well of 5' tall and the other is under.

Matthew painting the Painted Desert.

Before the act.

A sand storm on the way to Flagstaff.

Within 5 minutes of pulling into the RV park Drew and Matthew had already made friends.
We're looking forward to seeing the big ditch we came to see tomorrow. More pictures to follow.

Gallup, NM

I'm sitting in the laundromat in Gallup, NM while Chris and the kids are eating at Denny's. So much for roughing it on camp food. Drew just walked in and announced, "So this is what a laundromat looks like!"

We left Amarillo yesterday in hopes of making it to Albuquerque, NM. Once Chris got going he couldn't stop until Gallup. This will make for a much shorter trip to the Grand Canyon today. I have to say that we are ALL ready to get there.

A little side note, I have never been on a KOA Kampground until this week. I've discovered that they aren't anything like I had anticipated. We have been pleasantly surprised at how nice they are.

The kids got to paint on the cars at Cadillac Ranch.

Ran into this car and all of a sudden became very thankful for the extra room we had.

We finally arrived in New Mexico.

Even Cassie has become comfortable in the motorcoach.

Wild Man, Matthew on top of the RV in Amarillo.

Chris and his boys watching the unbelievably beautiful storm off in the distance while we were in Amarillo.

Grand Canyon, here we come!!! More pictures soon.

Amarillo Bound

Ellie enjoyed feeding the ducks at our campsite in Ft. Smith, AR.

We decided to go as far as Amarillo, TX today. After being thrown around in the RV, I think the interstates in Oklahoma are NO better than those in Arkansas. Thankfully, we got into Texas and it was smooth sailing.

Our KOA site for tonight is much nicer. The kids were able to swim while Chris grilled out burgers.

We ended day 2 with a gorgeous Texas Panhandle sunset and lightning display from a storm many miles away. I can truly say that even Chris seemed to be having fun tonight.

We're Off

As usual with the Peak family, we were only 2 hours late in our departure time. Instead of the expected 8am departure we left around 10:30. We only had one small hiccup with Sheryl (Matthew's name for the motorcoach). She started running HOT. This gave us a 2 hour delay in West Memphis.

We arrived at our first KOA campsite in Fort Smith, AR at 9:30pm. Needless to say, we were all exhausted. Trying to hook up an RV for the very first time in the dark is not the easiest task. After feeling like we were sleeping on our heads, I know Chris will be positive that he is parking on a level lot from now on.

All in all, the day wasn't too bad...just long.
